Everyday Struggles & The Importance of Optimism
Hi there, DeEzye Tribe! Hope you are all well,
Over-Documenting:
I assume most of you want to see my creative process of making a beat/track in the studio. Unfortunately, I don’t feel comfortable sharing this process (like Mac) as it is a personal experience. Think of it this way, every note and instrument is an auditory expression of my innermost emotions at that time. So, when I record my music, I create it for myself first, as I want it to be an accurate reflection of myself. Whereas, if I am recording myself with a camera, I begin to make what I expect people would want. I also struggle to be in a peaceful state of mind during these times as I feel like I must perform and hurry. I believe this is relevant to all kinds of art forms.
Pressure:
Pressure can be good, but too much can stifle the creative process and anyone’s confidence or rational thought. I have noticed that the most growth occurs during times of palpable pressure. However, if you never switch off, this can lead to major burnout.
Questions to ask myself/yourself to reduce pressure/stress:
- Are you too hard on yourself? (resolve this by looking in the mirror every day and telling yourself that you are your best friend)
- Are you where you want to be in life? So many people think that there is only one timeline in life. But we all develop at different stages (i.e. Bill Withers released his 1st track, "Ain't No Sunshine", at 33)
- Have you overcommitted?
- Are you afraid of correction? (correction from a respected family member can be vital)
- Do you worry or think about what everyone is thinking? Or do you think you know what everyone is thinking? (common anxiety trope) ANS: Meditate
- Are you optimistic?
Optimism:
Optimism is the new rebellion because it’s the most indefensible thing. Why?
- It challenges the thoughts of the majority
- If you believe change will occur, you will act on it
- It inspires other people to join this way of thought
- And most of all, it highlights your emotional resilience
From personal experience, a small number of people will try to combat this ideology with a limited or negative perspective, which they will mask by stating that they are "realists." To deal with this, you will have to be very in tune with your thoughts and not let negativity enter any facet of your mind. Identify that it is negative, and like a cloud, watch it pass by. Don’t hold onto or react to these thoughts negatively, and always give people the benefit of the doubt; otherwise, the other person will achieve what they meant to do. Which is to change your point of view to match the general consensus (most of the time, this is subconscious). So join me and many others in this new form of rebellion against the status quo.
Key Ideas:
- Meditate (this can just be sitting cross-legged, closing your eyes and being content with all of the distractions around you for 5-10mins per day)
- Optimism is the new rebellion
- Always give people the benefit of the doubt
- Like a cloud, watch your thoughts pass by. Don't hold onto them unless it is extremely necessary or important to you
